Say you get a list of names from a query, and want to sort it using a non-standard definition of ">". I had one such program where the sort was required to treat "McFoo" like "MacFoo", the accented characters including cedillas were sorted after the base letter, except that A with ring above went before A, the AE dipthong was sorted as if it were a letter following A, even if the AE was spelled out, and of course, Sr. was sorted before Jr., and Jr. before III, etc. Of course, in Ada, I defined my own ">" for Character inside an ">" for Last_Name and used a standard sort routine instantiated for an array of Names. -- Robert I.
