They have a payroll to meet and investor's money to protect. Unless they're seeing gobs of Ada business coming out of their ears, they would be foolish not to diversify some to protect jobs and the ongoing business. If we want to help Ada succeed and thus help insure a market for the vendors and a market for those of us wishing to use Ada in our jobs, then we need to a) work to give Ada more capabilities/power right out of the box and b) build as many important applications as possible in Ada. I think a good place to start would be to get a common library built/adopted for Ada that is distributed with most implementations. To further the second goal, creative Ada fans should look to develop common business or home applications in Ada and look to commercialize them. (How are you going to create business for the vendors and jobs for the techies unless you have some successful business of your own that utilizes Ada?) Both of those areas could be addressed and Ada would benefit. MDC Warren W.
