They're under pressrue to use whatever the rest of the world is using for precicely the same reasons: Cost and Schedule. C++ and Java are perceived as having a larger user base, bigger/better toolsets, more support, etc and Ada is an "Also Ran" that is struggling to provide some fraction of the tools/support/staff that other languages have. But the answer is not to piss-and-moan about what a bunch of stupid morons the DoD weenies are (as I'm sure we will see some of here under this topic ;-) The answer is to struggle to get Ada into more commercialized projects. If more businesses are out there using Ada for some important product or internal tool, then there are more Ada developers and more commercial demand for Ada-related tools. Then the big guys at LockMart and Boeing will not find an incentive to go elsewhere. Work on making Ada better at Time-To-Market issues by providing tools and leverage features (like a library abnd a GUI) Dream up ideas for some kind of product that people might want and build it using Ada - take it out and find a market. (The problem here is we're all willing to work alone developing some kind of "Geek Tools" - but what about working together and developing some kind of "Consumer Tools" that have a much broader appeal and make Ada a much more important player?) Build some successful businesses that utilize Ada as part of their competitive edge and maybe we won't have to worry about articles like this. MDC Warren W.
