Kind of like "real" algol is XML, and you could apply different style sheets depending on whether you were printing it or what. In theory, the reserved words could even be in a different language. I suspect what you're thinking is the recommendation that when printed, reserved words should be printed in boldface. The compilers never required different fonts.
