There is ISO, but it is a relativly slow an quiet process without a large backup from comp.lang.ada communitiy. - There is a common understanding that standarization would be a nice thing, but there are a lot of examples that standarization creates nothing usefull. But what is the problem with it, if you are never fixing you positionthen you will be able to choose next time a better direction. So if you find a standard not suitable any more, make a new one! This means no dmonating monolits, diversification is an issue. - The questions was raised if there is a community problem which originates from the old DoD days. May be this is true for old established organisations but i dont believe this is the problem of the open source communitiy in comp.lang.ada, or at least i cant find any evidence for such an assumption. - What needs to be standarized? This was interesting, only a view reactions related to what is missing. I thinks this point contains the key to the unserstanding of the relativly static Ada community. Maybe there is not so mutch to do? Personally i am interested not so mutch in the lagnuage but in extending the predefined lanaguage environment. What will i am going to make out of this: ========================================= Since i still believe there are some things missing in the predefined language environment i dont like to drop the issue without having made an attempt to test where the actual problems are. I believe that i have to go through the following natural process - Having a problem - Raising interest for my solution within comp.lang.ada. - Following the old bazar guidleling, release early and often - Include new ideas of the interested people - Include the ARG WG 9 informative in the process. - Loop thrught the last three steps until it is stable. - Propose the solution to the ARG WG for inclusion in the Ada RM predefined language environment. I this process works once, maybe the experiences gained there might lead to an established procedure in the communitiy, or simply does not work! So stay tuned, i will setup today a page in my private webspace: http://www.snafu.de/~boavista/napc.html Everybody is invited to participate the program to make the Ada 95 community a little bit more dynmaic.
