Various Names at Lloyds used an argument like this some years ago, that they had been persuaded to sign unlimited-liability agreements by unscrupulous syndicate managers who promised that they'd get rich. When asked to honour the agreement they'd signed by forking out for insurance payouts all the way to the bottom of their wallets, they squealed long and loud (and I believe they managed to convince a judge to let them off the hook).
