I think you'll find that C code of 20 or 30 years ago (K&R C, long before ANSI C let alone C++) traditionally used lower_case_with_underlines for identifiers, and the fashion for namesWithCapitalLetters is a more recent one... Certainly there are no capital letters used in the standard libraries other than in #defines, and then they're ALL_CAPS_WITH_UNDERLINES.
