Jovial is very real and was used in a number of defense projects (among other things, obviously). I believe there exists somewhere a freely available Jovial compiler that targets to the 1750a. It produced very efficient code for that processor. (Of course, you probably would need to find a VAX/VMS platform to run it on...) I think the name stood for Jules Own Version of the International Algorithmic Language.
