Actually, it's a myth in any case. A product should be judged on its merits, not on who designed it. "Designed by committee" is just a knee-jerk response for when you don't like something but don't have any real justification for your dislikes. Also, it might be worth pointing out that the last car you drove, airplane you rode, large building you worked in, specification you designed for, etc., were all almost certainly "designed by committee".
