Jim is Chair of the Technical Committee on Operating Systems Sponsoring Subcommittee, which falls under the IEEE Standards Working Group (I'm not positive I got all the names right, but the gist of the matter is that Jim heads up the POSIX Standardization effort). His call for participation is a result of our the realization that there are MANY new areas in POSIX that are being standardized and are in need of Ada bindingsl. The existing P1003.5 group is targeted specifically to a binding to P1003.1, and is far too small to handle the task of bindings to all the other POSIX standards. Please respond to Jim at the address he lists, NOT to me. Steven Deller, Chair P1003.5 POSIX-Ada binding ----------------------------------------------------- MEMORANDUM DATE: July 23, 1990 TO: TCOS Sponsor Executive Committee and Working Groups FROM: Jim Isaak, TCOS SS Chair SUBJECT: Invitation to participate in proposed working on Ada-POSIX Extensions The 1003.5 working group is currently going to ballot with the Ada bindings for the 1003.1 system interface. A PAR is currently being drafted (for sponsorship approval in the next 6 months or so) to address additional Ada bindings for interfaces such as the 1003.4 (real time and other extensions) work. It is expected that this work will require and attract new participants (and may actually be assigned to a new working group, depending on the recommendations of the 1003.5 and SEC groups.) In any case, it has been suggested that we encourage and invite additional participation in this work, which should start to take form in the January 1991 meeting in more detail. You are encouraged to both participate, and if appropriate, volunteer to help in an administrative role in this work. We need individuals who are willing to help in the roles of Chair, vice-chair, Technical Editor, and/or secretary for this work. The group may have multiple vice-chairs and/or technical editors to coordinate additional bindings work (for example, 1003.6 security related work). If you have recommendations for individuals who could help out in these areas we would appreciate your input. In general, the Chair/vice-chair roles will be best served by persons with management experience, and strong technical experts will be better able to advocate positions as members rather than from the chair. There is a slight preference to have Users serve as chairs where we can find supported candidates. All of these roles should be supported by the individual's employer, since there is a need for attendance, and also for other activities that take time (SCC meetings for chairs, hours of time in preparing documents for secretaries and technical editors.) Please send information about prospective administrative assistance to at least the TCOS-Standards Subcommittee Chair: TCOS-SS Chair: Jim Isaak Digital TTB1-5/G06 10 Tara Blvd. Nashua, NH 03062 uucp: isaak@decvax.dec.com ----------------------------------------------------- -- ::= | | | {uunet}!vrdxhq!deller deller@verdix.com
