Mythical Man-Month is indeed required and a good read, but Peopleware elicited just as much vocal agreement from me, if not more! BTW -- Mythical Man Month has a 20th anniversary update that is worth buying even if you own the original. It has 4 new chapters at the end, including the famous "no silver bullet" paper and a following chapter discussing the critical response to that paper. Peopleware is supposed to have a 10th anniversary edition coming out. I have yet to see it in Borders, though.
