Does the call to gethostbyname occur inside a protected procedure, even though it blocks, or is it controlled by a semaphore or something that is a protected object? eg procedure Get_Host_By_Name(...) is Grab : gethostbyname_grabber; begin gethostbyname(....); end Get_Host_By_Name; where the controlled type gethostbyname_grabber has an Initialize that calls a guarded entry, and thus waits for the guard to allow it in.
