Without hesitation, he answered "Ada." At the expense of getting fried by the community, I have been a disciple of Wirth's work for a long time. I have been working in C and its derivatives longer than Pascal and its derivatives (Object Pascal, Ada, Modula, Oberon, and Component Pascal), but I cannot help but believe that strongly-typed, restrictive languages are superior to permissive languages like C and C++ when it comes to developing good as opposed to working software. The beauty of these languages is that if the code compiles, it usually runs without error. With C and C++, you never know what you are going to get because it takes only one undisciplined team member to ruin everyone's day; thus, I have found that C and C++ require much more in-depth code inspection than the Pascal derivatives.
