Some of the UK vendors of Fortran 90/95 compilers, perhaps because of their experience with Algol 68, have garbage collection as an option. This is certainly true of NAG's compiler, and I think I have read of similar capabilities for Salford (based on NAG's compiler), and NASoftware (developed by the developers of perhaps the sole remaining commercial implementation of Algol 68). -- William B.
