If you are truly not able to learn several languages, then--for "the long run"--you need to learn a language that endures - Cobol, Fortran, Ada, even (shudder) C. Not a fad language like C++ or Java. Java is certainly superior to C, but at present, there's no guarantee that it will still be widely used three years from now. I find it humorous that the original poster was smart enough to ask users of eight languages, but some of the replies assume C++ and Java are the only options!
