The employer and employed are not working toward common goals. The
employer wants to get the best work out of the employee at the lowest
price. The employee wants to get the most money and benefits from the
employer, preferably without working too many 80 hour weeks.

These goals are opposed. The wonder of capitalism is that by each party
working as selfishly as possible, progress is achieved. It's not always
a pretty sight, though...
