Well I think you have misunderstood what programming is. You don't pick your problems after your favorite tool. You pick your tools after the problems. I.e. knowing how Ada works is not unuseful (Pascal is an other issue when Modula is a better choice). Btw, isn't the goal of that course to get an insight in different languages? Picking one you (and maybe most of your class mates) know is generally a bad idea. Like here we get ML as a first language. A language people rarely even heard about and therefore they all stand on equal grounding when they are supposed to go from writing programs to building software.
