I'm not sure that the cause and effect is particularly well established, but coincidentally I read that, in the new Apple-Microsoft collaboration, the two parties have agreed to work to provide more Java support on Apple products. Apparently, the "war" is more Microsoft vs. Sun than Microsoft vs. Java.
