That's why it's weak as a scientific theory. Superstring theory has this same problem. Yes, it explains much. Yes, it seems to work. But it requires a 10 dimensional universe with 7 of those dimensions wrapped too tightly to be perceived. The crocidile theory stipulates the existence of crocodiles. If these crocodiles cannot be detected by any means and simpler explanations for alleged crocodile activity cannot be disproven, then the theory isn't very useful. For "crocodile" read "string".
