Harold Carr recently showed how to make compiled Lisp programs work outside of a large environment - it hasn't been done in the past because nobody was interested in exchanging a comfortable and sophisticated environment for the crude and primitive ones usually associated with C and Pascal (Un*x notwithstanding). stan shebs
