To refute this, I just pulled up http://www.cdrom.com/ , and in the ephemeral World Wide Web today, from my machine, FreeBSD is shown at the top of their "best sellers" box (followed by two Linux variants). I have no way to verify that it is really a best seller, but it certainly is offered for sale on CDrom.
