It is expected that most of the traffic would relate to the Night Hawk (being Harris' latest offering), however, discussions of older platforms are certainly welcome. Harris' business focus is on real-time computing. A primary target market of the symmetric multiprocessor Night Hawk is real-time simulation and data acquisition. It is hoped that Harris users from all fields (aerospace, education, research, engineering, government, manufacturing, simulation, etc.) would participate in this newsgroup. A 'comp.sys.harris' newsgroup would provide its readers an opportunity to network with other users to share experiences of hardware and software solutions, request and receive help from other users in solving specific problems, and identify solutions for unique applications. While Harris employees are welcome to join the discussions, this group is not intended as an alternative to the standard Harris support channels. RATIONALE: The Harris users group (HUE - Harris Users' Exchange, est. 1976) publishes a quarterly bulletin that to date has been the only formal communications channel. Because participation in a newsgroup is easy, immediate, and spontaneous, it is hoped this will encourage and facilitate information sharing among Harris users. CONTENT: Hardware - Harris Night Hawks - interfacing 3rd party products Software - ported public domain software (GNU and others) - software releases, discussion and announcements - languages (Ada, C, Fortran) - applications System - administration - system tuning - real-time issues - benchmarking and performance measurement - bugs and workarounds System administration - security Miscellaneaous - conferences - jobs available - other events of interest for Harris users - used hardware forsale - h/w & s/w wish list items VOTING INSTRUCTIONS AND ADDRESSES: The voting period is from 1 April 93 through 30 April 93.
