I forgot to mention RTDB was Ada 83 and was written because Ingres was way too slow for AN/BSY-2. FIRM was its Ada 95 successor (sort of). Note that both were developed under defense contracts, with all the requirements, design, test, peer review, etc. rigor which that implies.
