Call it virus if you like. I see it as the best way to keep the ball rolling. Without the GPL we certainly won't have so many nice piece of software around... Everybody will try to redo whatever seems cool to make money, and won't have the ressource to make something decent. Look at GNOME, KDE, Inkscape... sorry I won't list the many thousands of softwares that make my work possible.
