But it wasn't just the software. The inertial reference system
hardware was taken unchanged from the Ariane 4 to the Ariane 5.
While it turned out in retrospect that there were reasons why
the software which worked in the Ariane 4 did not work in the
Ariane 5, that is a far, far cry from saying that "there were
no reasons to expect that it should work for this new rocket."
