It may, I suppose, be something to do with the (apparent) anonymity of the medium exciting more outspoken responses than would come from people in other circumstances. Doubtless this phenomenon will be the subject of numerous theses in the future ;-) Of course, one suggestion is that if a respondent changes the subject, they should change the subject line.
