Count me in this camp too. I usually end up creating some units packages, for whatever project I'm one, that does these sorts of conversions. (Sadly, I don't get to work in Ada professionally very much anymore.) This is just the sort of _wonderful_ use of good typing (IMHO) that makes programs _readable_ and trustworthy. I love Ada because it lets me do this, and makes my intentions absolutely clear. (Am I too effusive?) Yes, it is more trouble to write this way, establishing the appropriate type conversions in utilities.
