Yes eigenvectors show just the relatives maginitudes between DOFs as for ex= ample in vibrations. So as you say, scaling is not an issue. A beam can eit= her bend upwards or downwards in its banana first mode shape and so a multi= plication with a scalar value say of -1 does not affect the relative magnit= udes between the different DOFs and we have the same information regarding = the mode shape of the beam. What I meant with the eigenvectors is that there are different ways of norm= alising. Normally the total length of an eigenvector is scaled to unity. Di= fferent normalisations exist also. YC
