Since Ada had tasking before > (most) unix had threads I think Unix got the name wrong :) At the Ada Launch (1980 Dec 10), when Ichbiah, Barnes, and Firth presented their new language, one of them said that they tended to prefer shorter words for reserved words, and task is shorter than thread or process.
